The New Jersey LRE Project
The New Jersey Department of Education and ALL IN are pleased to announce the New Jersey LRE Project: free Technical Assistance, longer-term Systemic Change projects, leadership development events, and additional materials and resources to support education and to promote continuous improvement to increase positive outcomes for students with disabilities, ages 5-21.
What is LRE?
LRE stands for “Least Restrictive Environment”. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) states that all children with disabilities should be educated with non-disabled peers and ensured access to the general education curriculum in the regular classroom to the maximum extent possible. [IDEA, 20 U.S.C. §1412(a)(1)(5)] The Least Restrictive Environment, or LRE, requires that children with disabilities be educated in the “least restrictive environment appropriate” to meet their “unique needs."
